WHAT KIND OF DANCES WILL I SEE?
Our festival presents modern, post-modern, contemporary, and improvisational dance works. Our programming is incredibly diverse and features artists from around the world. Look for expression, meaning, abstraction, virtuosity, minimalism, humor, gravity, grace, design, experimentation, movement invention, and more.

WHAT IS THE THEATER LIKE? DO I NEED TO BRING MY OPERA GLASSES?
We present our showcases in small theaters where the seats are on risers, so you won’t miss any of the action. Every seat is a great seat. Dance on Film is presented in a movie theater with concessions and reclining seats!

CAN I BRING MY FAMILY?
Austin Dance Festival and Dance on Film are presented in traditional concert style settings and may contain adult content. We recommend children ages 10+ with adult supervision.

WHAT ELSE CAN I DO AT THE FESTIVAL?
In addition to attending the dance on film screening and the professional showcases, we welcome our community to attend post-show receptions and master classes. Our events take place in the heart of Austin near multiple restaurants, hiking trails, shopping centers and museums. We encourage you to get to know the city as part of your adventure!

HOW DO YOU SELECT THE PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS?
Dance artists and companies submit videos of their work to the festival. A diverse group of choreographers, educators, and dance writers from across the country review artist submissions and make recommendations based upon factors such as creativity, innovation, development of ideas, choreographic structure, execution, diversity, and historical, social, and cultural perspectives. The Executive team uses the recommendations to curate showcases that highlight superior work in the broad field of modern dance, that demonstrate equitable representation, showcase a variety of local, regional, and national work, and that deepen our understanding of ourselves and each other.
